Public Hearings Today

The Historic Preservation Commission will be holding two public hearings later today.

The subject of the first hearing at 6 p.m. is the proposed alteration and expansion of the Columbia County Courthouse. The hearing provides a great opportunity for the public to see what is being planned for this magnificent Beaux Arts building.

The subject of the second hearing at 6:30 p.m. is new construction proposed for the Willard Place Historic District. The proposed new building would be located behind 325 Allen Street, to the right of these two faux Greek Revival houses.

  2. It's hard to believe they can squeeze another one in there. It's not Tony Thompson's lot is it? And will it be another faux Greek if it passes?

  3. Jennifer--The proposed new house would be constructed behind 325 Allen, which is Tony and Margaret's house, but it lines up with these two houses, which are at the back of what was once the garden and grounds of the house that is now the Inn at Hudson. The new building is to be Tony Thompson's studio--as he described it last night, "the studio of his dreams." The design is very modern and employs "green" building techniques.
