Did You Know . . .

that Dan Aykroyd (Saturday Night Live, The Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters) can trace his roots to Hudson? I didn't, until a Gossips reader sent me the link to this article in the National Post (Canada). It seems that Aykroyd's great-great-great-grandfather, Samuel Aykroyd, left Hudson around 1810 to settle in Kingston, Ontario. There he operated the principal slaughterhouse and got rich supplying the British troops stationed at Fort Henry during the War of 1812, but he lost everything when the Bank of Upper Canada failed.
