Vote on Walmart Expected for Wednesday

The controversial plan to buy the abandoned Walmart building in Greenport for county offices is expected to come before the full Board of Supervisors for a vote on Wednesday night at 7:30. Last night a resolution authorizing the acquisition was approved 6 to 1 by the Public Works Committee. The lone dissenter was Kinderhook supervisor, Pat Grattan. W. T. Eckert has the story in the Register-Star: "Supes to vote on Walmart purchase." The comments of two Hudson supervisors are quoted in the story. Bart Delaney (Fifth Ward), who chairs the Public Works Committee, stressed that the project didn't necessary have to involve all county offices. John Musall (First Ward) said that the move would be a good opportunity to develop a transit system.
