Galvan Foundation Announces Grant Awards

On July 1, the Galvan Foundation announced the recipients in its latest round of grant making. The foundation reported receiving twenty-three applications requesting just over $419,000; it awarded $191,500 to nineteen organizations in five categories.

Historic Preservation

$25,000 to the Hendrick Hudson Chapter of the DAR
General support to restore the exterior of the historic 1811 Robert Jenkins House

Environment

$11,300 to the Columbia Land Conservancy
General support to create the North Bay Recreation and Natural Area

Health and Services

$5,000 to the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York
General support to provide cutting-edge HIV/AIDS prevention services in Columbia and Greene counties, as well as support services for clients in the same region

$10,000 to the Columbia County Department of Health
General support for implementing and sustaining a comprehensive Community Health Improvement Plan that addresses the problem of obesity

$20,000 to the Columbia-Greene Hospital Foundation
General support to continue the comprehensive art therapy program for child victims of sexual abuse and extreme neglect

$10,000 to Reentry Columbia
General funding to support men and women released from prison, during their transition back to life in Columbia County

$15,000 to the Women's Health Project
General support for a one-year continuation of the Women's Health Project

Education and the Arts

$5,000 to Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts, Inc.
General support for community-based Family Cirkus

$10,000 to Columbia-Greene Community College
General support for students of all ages in achieving a college education

$5,000 to Dollars for Scholars
General support providing scholarships to students who are the first in their family to go to college

$10,000 to the HCSD Book Festival
General support for the Hudson Children's Book Festival and Hudson Reads Power Lunch Reading Mentorship Program

$15,000 to Hudson Family Literacy
General support to operate a year-round program that provides a broad spectrum of services to eligible families

$5,000 to the Hudson Music Festival
General funding to support annual music festival

$15,000 to Operation Unite
General support to provide educational and cultural arts based programs

$5,000 to Staley B. Keith Social Justice Center
General funding for programs with the mission to empower young black men

$1,500 to the Hudson City School District
Contribution for Spanish exchange students

Community

$10,000 to the Hudson Pride Foundation
General support for the Hudson Pride Parade and youth programs

$3,700 to Hudson Is a Summer Festival
General support to print the booklet advertising family summer programs in Hudson

$10,000 to the Flag Day Parade
General support for the Flag Day Parade
